EVERYONE’S A FILM MAKER THESE DAYS. HERE ARE SOME GREEN FILM MAKING TIPS

THE PRODUCTION OFFICE
•    Look for office products with GREEN SEAL CERTIFICATION
•    PRINT DOUBLE SIDED whenever possible
•    COMMUNICATE VIA EMAIL instead of printed memos

THE GREEN ROOM
•    USE TAP WATER: Filtered and disinfected by state and EPA
•    RENT A WATER COOLER
•    BUY WASHABLE silverware
•    STOCK REUSABLE containers
•    BUY ORGANIC OR LOCAL fruits and vegetables
•    Shop at Local Supermarket
•    AVOID using all Styrofoam

SET CONSTRUCTION
•    RE USE Set Walls as much as possible!
•    USE SCREWS instead of staples
•    Recharge power tools when FULLY DRAINED
•    RE USE CUTOFFS for smaller construction
•    DESIGNATE waste cans for small scraps and saw dust only
•    USE low VOC caulk

SET DESIGN
•    ESTABLISH a solvent mixing area
•    USE canvas drop cloths
•    AVOID spray paints and adhesives
•    Paint is NOT necessarily better to buy in BULK SIZES
•    NEVER RINSE excess paint down the drain
•    KEEP LARGE CARDBOARD in area to get excess latex paint off of rollers before washing
•    STORE brushes and rollers in BIODEGRADABLE ZIPLOC BAGS
•    CONSOLIDATE LEFT OVER PAINT by similar color
•    NEVER MIX solvent oil paint with water based paint

SET DRESSING
•    RENT instead of buying whenever possible
•    PURCHASE USED cardboard boxes
•    PURCHASE plant, soil, etc. that do not use excessive pesticides
•    AVOID dry cleaning

DURING THE SHOOT
•    ARRANGE for dumpster that will recycle
•    If possible, BRING COFFEE POT and TRAVEL MUGS to location instead of using disposable cups
•    ENCOURAGE THE USE OF TAP WATER / water coolers instead of bottled CARPOOL whenever possible
•    REWARD crew who uses PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
•    Do not keep PRODUCTION VEHICLES RUNNING when not in use
•    RECYCLE all motor oil, anti-freeze, etc.

THE STRIKE (set dressers)
•    Set walls can be REUSED OR DONATED
•    RECYCLE all scrap metals
•    NEVER POUR wet paint down the drain or in the trash

THE STRIKE (crew)
•    RECYCLE color gels
•    TURN-OFF all lights and equipments when not in use
•    Use ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHITNG
•    Compact fluorescents, Nila LED lighting
•    Use RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
•    Use DIGITALPHOTOS rather than Polaroid’s

POST PRODUCTION
•    Editing
•    USE digital post-production
•    CHOOSE ENVIRONMENTALLY, friendly, media packaging
•    DISTRIBUTE materials online
•    HIGHLIGHT production environmental best practices in special features section of the DVD

DONATE
•    Set dressing/prop/wardrobe
•    Leftover paint to local theatres, scene shops, and schools
•    Donate set walls
•    Leftover food
